The Original Steelhead
School Since 2001 Often imitated but never duplicated We
will offer another Steelhead fishing class this spring. I have fished all over the Great Lakes and
let me tell you there is no place like home! We are truly spoiled living
along Lake Erie's southern shoreline. We have a world class steelhead bonanza in our back yards
that lasts for nine months a year. Believe me there is nothing that will
take the winter blues away from you like a fly hooked steelhead running
down the river like a freight train. Many find fly-fishing and just being
outdoors on our beautiful streams to be therapeutic to the soul, but don't
we all fish to catch fish? Problem is most people are not very
successful. Many feel intimidated with so many choices to make. When to
go, where to go, what to use, how should I fish it, reading the water,
and on and on. It is a true fact that 10% of the fishermen are catching
90% of the fish. Let us help you figure out the choices and join that
10% at one of our three day all inclusive schools.
Come spend a weekend learning the secrets of
fishing "Steelhead Alley" at one of our all inclusive schools! Each
class is limited to nine students. Myself and members of my guide staff
will be there to instruct you. We will share our many years of steelhead
experience with you..!! It will be very comprehensive and will include
all aspects of fishing for steelhead in our streams. Both the fly rod
and the spinning rod will be covered.
On Friday, after you check into the
room that is included in the package. We will meet at 6:30 PM at the
hotel meeting room. The schools are timed to coincide with the
peaks of the fish run. It will be introductions, pizza, a slide show
presentation, rod rigging, and knot tying on night one. We will set up a fly rod and a
spinning rod for fishing the tributaries. Each class participant will be
provided with a quality Scott fly rod and a Fenwick noodle-spin rod to
use for the weekend. We will cover all of the necessary knots. We will
also go in depth into gear, fly and bait selection. It will be hands on
and very detailed.
The previous schools have went well. We have done
over 30 classes now. With well over three hundred and fifty graduates. I think everybody who has joined us at a school
has came
away worn out from the fast pace of the weekend but a much better Steelhead
fishermen.
Touring the streams and learning basic fly-tying in one day is an awful
lot to expect of a person. Nobody ever complains and most everybody catches
a bunch of
fish. Most on a fly they tied the night before. Everybody learns to
tie the
knots necessary for fly-fishing and builds a hand knotted fluorocarbon
leader for the fly rod they use on the guided day of fishing on Sunday.
Saturday morning we will meet in the restaurant for Breakfast at the
hotel. Afterwards everybody will get in their cars, and we will form a
convoy and tour the west side of "Steelhead Alley." This will
include the streams in NE Ohio. The tour will focus on
learning the streams and their characteristics, we will not fish. I will
show you all of the streams and the good access points..!! This
alone is worth the price of the class..!! It took me over twenty years
to learn these spots..!! We will stop at several access points for
each stream and we will discuss when and why I fish them. I suggest
everyone bring maps or a Atlas-Gazetteer or other quality map to
highlight. After the tour you will have a few hours to fish or have
dinner before we regroup at the hotel.
Saturday evening we will cover fly tying
and bait preparation. I have lined up some of the best local tiers to
help out with the Fly Tying section.
We will tie flies and make bait sacs hands on. We will have fly tying
vise's and all the tools for each class member to use. Everyone will
come away with a half dozen flies and the skills to tie our basic steelhead
flies. We will also go over the knots again. Everybody will
build a knotted leader on their own.
After breakfast on Sunday morning we will split up into groups of three
for guided fishing and fly casting instruction. You will get a full day
of all inclusive guided fishing on Sunday. All rods ,reels , flies, ect.
will be provided. All you will need for the weekend will be your fishing
license and waders. The price will include, two nights lodging ,
Pizza Friday evening and your breakfast both mornings is included. The
total price of the weekend is $375 per angler based on two sharing a room. For a single room add $50.
A Non-Refundable $50
deposit will hold your spot.
Through the
years many fish pictures and letters from former participants have came in. It gives me the
warm and fuzzies to see these pictures and the smiles on the peoples
faces. As it turns out a few of the people who attended the school
are now regular fishing buddies. I am happy to report to date we
have received
all good feedback about the class and its content. I thank everybody who
took the time to send the kind
e-mails. STEELHEAD SCHOOLS
