Steelhead Alley Lodging Page

Our Steelhead Runs last from October thru May.  This is the off season for our hotels along Lake Erie's southern shoreline. Interstate I-90 runs the length of the lake.  It is known as "Steelhead Alley"  Many hotels are located near its exits.  Rooms are easy to find and reservations are usually not necessary.  If you are planning a trip it may be a good idea to get a advance reservation at a hotel that allows you to cancel up until the arrival date.  This will allow you to be flexible if stream conditions are more favorable at another stream.  This will give you the option of relocating to another hotel closer to where you will fish if need be. Of course your guide will meet you at your hotel in the morning.

Reserve your room by the season.  We have developed the list below based on past experiences where he fishing will be the best for the particular time of year.  Our picks for hotels are listed with *** Your guide will be happy to make lodging recommendations, please call.

November - December,  Steelhead Alley,  

It would take pages to list all of the lodging options between Erie pa and Cleveland Oh.  We fish the North Eastern Ohio and Pennsylvania streams this time of year.  With so many hotels to choose from getting a room is easy, even without a reservation.

***Days Inn Conneaut Ohio 440-593-1226 Located at I-90 exit #241  Conneaut is a rural area and there are not many hotels nearby. The Days Inn is reasonably priced and they have a free breakfast.  Mention the fisherman's special. It is less than 20 minutes from seven different streams. It close proximity to both Pa and Oh making it a ideal choice this time of year.

Best Western Inn  Sterretania Pa  814-83-7646 Located at I-90 exit #18   The Best Western is located close to Elk Creek.  It is very popular with the fishermen.  They offer a hot Breakfast, room service, and they have a hopping bar. I hold my fall Steelhead Schools at the Best Western.  The rates are good.  Mention the fisherman's special. It is just a short 20 minute drive to Ohio

Clarion Inn Erie Pa 814-833-1116  Located 5 miles north of I-90 exit #18 on Rt 832.  The Clarion is upscale lodging.  It is located at the entrance to Presque Isle State Park.  They have a pool, Jacuzzi and a excellent complimentary hot breakfast. Many restaurants and shopping are nearby.  A nice choice if non fishermen are joining you. Winter rates are appx $75 a night.

December - March, Grand River Ohio

Winter is a great time to fish for steelhead weather permitting.  During the winter months it can be very hard to predict where the fishing will be the best.  We try to have our guests stay near Geneva Ohio but please keep in mind that we may need to move to another area if conditions are not favorable. This is your best lodging option for our Grand River float trips. Geneva is also home to a host of fine wineries you may wish to include in your visit

**** Comfort Inn Austinbug Ohio 440-275-2711   Located at I-90 exit #223 The Comfort Inn has a early complimentary breakfast.  They also have a bar, restaurant and room service. The hotel is clean and the prices are reasonable

Howard Johnson's Geneva Ohio 440-466-1168 Located at I-90 exit #218 The Howard Johnson's is the best area rate for a room. This is a no frills hotel. There are several restaurants within walking distance.

Hampton Inn Austinburg Ohio 440-275-2000 Located at I-90 exit #223 A newer hotel. Clean and affordable

State Park Lodge Geneva On The Lake Ohio 866-806-8066  Located at I-90 exit #218  five miles north on Rt 534.  The State Park lodge is beautiful.  It has a pool and Jacuzzi that overlook Lake Erie.  It is upscale lodging and there is a restaurant and wine room at the hotel.  Rooms are large and they accept pets. The rates are a little pricey.  NOTE  They require a 72 hour cancellation notice

March- April,  Steelhead Alley

Spring is Manistee time and the best place to catch these hard fighting fish is in Ohio.  The Chagrin, Rocky and Vermillion Rivers all fish excellent in the spring. In April we try to have our clients stay in Elyria.  This is close to the Vermillion River.  All of our guides are licensed to fish the Lorain County Metro parks Property. It is a big river and they own vast amounts of lands.  It is a great place to fish.

Econo Lodge Elyria Ohio 440-324-7676  Located at Ohio turnpike Elyria Exit  The name says it all.  Its cheap.

Early October,  Cattaraugus Creek Trips 

Early October we guide Cattaraugus Creek in Western NY.  We only fish the Catt in Oct and early Nov.  The Catt is a very long river who's headwaters are in the Appalachian mountains.  It tends to flood out in the spring from snowmelt.  Very seldom can you fish there except in the fall.. The area around he Catt is very rural and doesn't have many lodging options.  The areas spectacular fall foliage draws quite a few tourists.  I would suggest advance reservations.
